ARE YOUR TIRES A LITTLE TIRED

Proper tire maintenance and inspection is an important safety function often neglected.  The importance of properly maintaining your tires cannot be overemphasized.  Remember, tires are the only contact between your vehicle and the road. Under inflation is the leading cause of tire failure and can also lead to higher fuel costs.

Tires affect vehicle handling, ride, braking, and safety. For optimum performance, tires must have the correct air pressure, tread depth, balance and the wheels of the vehicle must be properly aligned.

Checking your tires on a regular basis is an important step in protecting your safety and your investment. Ideally, tire inspections should be performed monthly. If you drive over potholes and debris on the road, live in a cold climate, or drive long distances regularly, then you should inspect your tires more often.

Always inspect your tires before a long trip. The more often these inspections are performed, the easier it will be to find a small problem, such as a nail in your tire, and fix it before it becomes a more expensive and time-consuming issue.

ALIGNMENTS

A wheel alignment inspection is recommended to ensure the tires are calibrated to ‘point’ straight ahead. Proper wheel alignment makes a vehicle steer easily and allows tires to wear evenly and not prematurely.

Wheels can be nudged out of alignment by accidentally hitting curbs and parking blocks, by catching a center cement divider while making a miscalculated turn, or potholes.

Once a wheel is knocked out of alignment, the premature tire wear begins. Misalignment is not obvious to the human eye, but the effects will be noticeable.

ROTATIONS

RECOMMENDED EVERY 10000 Kilometers or as per recommended by the Manufacturer

Tire rotation is the practice of rotating the front tires with the back tires, and retorquing wheel fasteners to manufacture specification.

Although a tire rotation is generally an easy service to complete, tire rotation is the most neglected routine maintenance by vehicle owners. We recommend you periodically rotate your tires so they wear evenly and last longer, again protecting your investment.

BALANCING

Wheel balancing is separate from wheel alignment and is always done when new tires are installed.

When car wheels are out of balance, there will be a vibration when the car is driven at speeds approximately 50kph and higher.

Tire imbalance will cause premature tire cupping and wear which can then not be corrected with a wheel balance.
